Shopify chargeback deadlines: how to find your due date

Last checked 7 October 2026

Every Shopify Payments chargeback and inquiry has an evidence due date. After it passes, no evidence can be added, and there are no exceptions.

How long you have

Shopify says the due date is usually 7 to 21 days after the chargeback or inquiry is filed. It shows on the disputed order in your Shopify admin, in your store's timezone. If no time is shown, the deadline is 11:59 PM on that date.

Where to find it

  • Open the disputed order from Orders; the chargeback banner and the Chargeback response page show the due date.
  • To list every open dispute, go to Orders, click Search and filter, add the filter Chargeback and inquiry status, and choose Open.
  • Chargeback emails go to your store contact email (Settings, Store details).

What happens if you do nothing

Shopify sends the evidence it collected automatically, plus anything you saved, on the due date. You do not lose the chance to respond by missing it, but you lose the chance to add the evidence only you have.

Submit now or wait

You can click Submit now as soon as your evidence is ready. After that you cannot edit it. Waiting until the due date lets you keep adding evidence; Shopify sends whatever is saved.

A simple reminder routine

  • Put the due date in your calendar the day the dispute arrives.
  • Check again 72 hours and 24 hours before it.
  • Gather messages, photos and policies early: some take time to find.
